A friend of my son asked: While practicing the Keto lifestyle, how does the body still get the function of the pentose phosphate pathway? Thanks for any assistance with this.

Of course! A common misconception is that the body has no glucose inside when you are not eating much of it. When most of body converts to fatty acid and ketones as fuel, plenty of glucose (required for the PPP) is available, made by a process called gluconeogenesis from protein and fat (protein mainly though). Both the liver and kidney have the ability to make glucose.

I am not scientific at all. But I try to think as scientifically and as logically as a can. I would wager though that this is why a glass of wine is not as well tolerated fro me now as it was in my pre-low carb days.

Also so what I believe I am seeing is the connection of what turns our hair grey ( hydrogen peroxide ). Although I have a lot of greying, the grey hairs were reduced noticeable after I began a ketogenic diet. I am sure there is a connection to both…hair greying and alcohol consumption
