After some advice please….I have a 145 litre tropical tank with natural bogwood and driftwood but artificial silk plants, I have no ammonia or nitrites but I can’t get the nitrates down any lower than this (50mg/l by my reading). I have done partial water changed 25% and 50%. I only have a spiny green eel, 2 corydora and 6 X-ray tetras in there at the moment but want to stock more but not until this is near zero. Any ideas how I can do this as I’m really struggling now.

It’s my understanding that mg/L = ppm… that being the case, have you tested your water source to see if you are dealing with nitrates there?

The water source is tap water which is treated with de-chlorinator or tap water conditioner prior to adding to the tank. The tap water reads around 10mg/l

That’s not that high, are you loosing fish or having any other issues?
