Any recommendations for 90 yo man and grams of protein per day? Do seniors need more, or less protein as they age? He is 5' 9" about 170 lbs. Reasonably active and rather healthy with old age stuff....

Hi, I’m a nutritionist so this info is from that perspective. Older people certainly need good quality protein around 0.8g to 1g per kg (2.2lb) of body weight. The most important thing though is for them to eat it spread out over the day. The capacity of our body to absorb protein tops out at around 30g, after that it is excreted or wasted. Also the elderly often suffer from lower stomach acid so smaller amounts with a meal including veggies is better digested. Most elderly don’t get enough protein and are at higher risk of falls because of muscle mass loss. I’d aim for around 30g 3x per day
