Can you guys tell me if I’m doing it correctly? I just finished day 2 of starting Keto and fasting 16:8. I’m doing well, feeling energized and not too hungry during the fasting hours. I want to lose about 5 pounds and after that just maintain main. I’m following Ben’s food suggestions sheet he pinned in his info post. I’m not counting food in grams as I don’t really understand how to do that, but I am doing about a palm size of protein and 2 cups of veggies for lunch and dinner (just protein for breakfast as per Ben’s sheet). I am also drinking bone broth. Does bone broth count as a protein or is it just a free liquid? How much should I drink a day? I’m taking 1.5 teaspons of salt either in food or water. I’m taking 500mg of magnesium from pills and just started with cream of tartar (1000mg) but I don’t know how to take it other than drink with water? I’m going to buy some No Salt when I get a chance. I will try to eat an avocado every day too. Always I’m drinking tons of water. Anything I’m forgetting? I did have the runs earlier today and right now I have cramping in my lower stomach but it’s not too bad. My muscles feel amazing though. And I feel great in general. Mentally more clear. And less up and down, emotionally speaking. I think sugar makes me less stable and calm. I have read a lot of the info posts and done searches on things like bone broth and still trying to figure this out. Let me know if I’m doing it right and thanks so much!

1.5 tsp of salt is a good amount, as long as you don’t take more than 1/2 tsp at a time (which would cause diarrhea).

1.5 teaspoons of salt spread throughout the day is great especially for keto diets and fasting. Don’t get confused with the gov Dietary recommendations of salt. That’s for SAD (standard American diet) and it’s completely outdated anyway. For those caught up with the salt fear Read the Salt Fix for credible updates research and perspective. As far as keto and fasting… well the typical high refine carb & sugar SAD woe RETAINS water. Keto & fasting regulates water and flushes out your water retention especially during transition (symptoms like keto flu). This is normal because it doesn’t retain water. During this flushing out or water loss change in the body you flush out electrolytes. This is why you need to replenish. 1-2 teaspoons a day spread out is enough! Bloating may be your monthly or something else. I would not worry too much about it. It will pan itself out. Keep Calm and Keto On.

It sounds like you are doing a great job! I suggest that you stop the bone broth. It has protein in it, enough that your body thinks it’s a meal and it will be unfavorable to your insulin. Remember salt is sodium chloride. 5 grams of salt is only 2 grams of sodium. Make sure to space it out all day. Little here little there. If you do too much at once it’s not good. Sometimes the switch to keto is disruptive to people. Consider adding a probiotic like the Jarrow’s Dopholis (they have it at whole foods/sprouts).

Sounds like a reasonable amount of food to me. Maybe even a little light on protein. If you are comfortable with it, it sounds like you may be ready for longer fasts. Consider letting it ride. You can always just eat if it’s not going well.

Be careful then. You will tank your milk supply if you fast more than 16:8. Keep the protein going. Some choose to up the carbs but at 2.5yrs that’s not an issue.
