Can't I just have my brown breads?

So…..I’ve had an intestinal issue for the last 7 days. I was so hungry, we stopped at a bagel joint. I got the veggie sandwich. Ancient grain bagel, humus, red onion, cucumber, arugulia (sp). I loved it. Is the bagel bad???? I can give up everything but bread. That’s gotta account for something….right? I guess what I’m asking is…I have given up meat-dairy-salt-sugar-oil. Even white foods. Can’t I just have my brown breads? If I could just do that, I will be a happy person.

Try Beano? I had this issue too at times and Beano helped, but what really helped was using an otc acid reducer (def not something I wanted to do). Cutting down on beans by 1/3 and substituting them with say, kamut, reallly helped me.

I would say bad, unless it’s made with organic whole wheat flour and has NO oil.

You have to decide yourself how far you take this. What’s the best option? Whole grain bread, no salt, oil or sugar. Whether you want to allow for those things in your bread, at this stage or long term, is totally over to you. Don’t stress too much about the detail as you find your feet with this though. Focus on the good things you are including and they’ll eventually crowd out any less desirable items in your diet.

You are in charge here! There may well be foods that you decide you would like to eat for reasons of pleasure or sociability. For me it’s wine and black tea. I didn’t know bread was “bad”. The daily dozen app lists bagels and bread and gives the serving sizes. I eat it sometimes but try to vary my grains. Bread is convenient – the other grains need cooking.
