could it be an ammonia problem

Over the past few days my Betta has been acting different, only staying at the bottom of the tank or at the top on his leaf . He will only swim for a couple seconds and then just lie there. It looks like half his tail is missing. He is still eating. There are 2 neon Tetras in the tank and they are fine so I’m not sure what is wrong? I’m new to fish keeping so I don’t know much about their diseases etc . I tested the water and the pH was alkaline so I slowly adjusted it down a bit, could it be an ammonia problem?

Commenting so somebody with more expertise can help you.
Havnt had to deal with this with my boys but sounds likes he’s
nipped his tail off. Maybe take the tetras out and stop trying to
mess with the pH. Probably stressing him out.

Are you sure the neons haven’t been nipping at his tail?
