Do Bettas get depressed?

Do Bettas get depressed? Mine had a siamese algae eater in with him but they used to chase each other around the tank and he annoyed my betta constantly, so I took him out. Ever since, my boy is hardly eating and he’s usually a pig..

Yes. I moved Genos out of a split 10 gallon because he has fin rot and put him in his own tank. He immediately floated to the top , wouldn’t swim down and then started laying sideways. I thought he was dying so I put him back in his split tank and by that night he was completely normal again…even flaring at me when I got near the tank!

So should I put the algae eater back in with him?

Just watch, as they get older they need more meat proteins in
their diet, and if it’s not met they start snacking on fish
