Does anyone have experience in The Sangre de Christos? Specifically the area just north of Crestone? I’ve always been interested but have never been. Looks STEEP from my maps. Any luck, good or bad?

I have hunted south of there by my. Mestas and rough mt. And Silver mt. Hunting was incredible! Been down there twice. Once with archery. Killed a 310”. And once 1st rifle killed a 325”. When I went archery I saw some big boys pushing 350. I shot a 310” satellite bull. In most places that would be a herd bull! It was great. Might go back this year archery.

Lots and lots and lots of hikers. The Sangres have about a dozen or so 14’ers. More people in there than you can even imagine.

Lots and lots of spruce beatle kill, very steep, established trails get a ton of pressure …the area puts out above timberline buck tags too..lots of elk, deer and sheep..on the South end it is a little easier to get around..
