Does Dr Gregger mention toddler and children’s health? My son is slender and obviously doesn’t need to lose weight… Actually needs to gain/maintain. She said to cook with oil for him but I’m aware of the omega 6/3 ratio. Any suggestions? When I cook and bake I use nut butters and occasionally flax oil.

Dr Greger recommends avocado, nuts & seeds, he answered this question when I saw him speak. He said they have a small stomach and need the calorie density of these foods.

To gain weight… Avocado each day. Mine loves squished onto bread with sesame seeds sprinkled. Also, nut butters. I’d avoid empty calories like crackers etc and just make available lots of good foods. Smoothies could be a good strategy too. Can easily add chia or flax, nut butter, etc.

Kids need plenty of fats. Doesn’t mean they have to be bad fats. I put flax oil or hemp oil in my daughter’s smoothies. She eats lots of avocado, nuts, nut butters, seeds. Because she eats a whole foods plant based diet I encourage her to eat as much as she wants. She is slim and healthy. Not underweight. Being a slim person is unusual nowadays, especially with kids, it makes them stand out, but being slim is a normal state of being, it’s your body in balance.

My daughter is now 15 and has always been slim, don’t worry too much. Kids eat more often as they’re more active. So I just make sure there is plenty of good food in the house, similar to what I eat on this way of eating.

I know it sounds boring but when my daughter is hungry and comes in from rowing, she really likes molasses porridge (porridge cooked with a bit of molasses) and stewed apple on top. She also likes nut and date bars.
