New guys- every question you ask will get a different answer from almost everyone. We’re all different in the way we do things. In our equipment, our setup, our call sequence and sounds. But there’s one thing the more experienced hunters all have in common….we do what we know works the best in OUR area. And we learned by trial and error, and we’re still learning.
Personally here’s my coyote hunting life- I’m a cheap bastard and I’m not spending a ton of money to kill predators.
I hunt mostly wide open rolling pastures, where shots can be on the long side, but them lil critters can still pop out at 10 yards.
I use a 223 AR with both 55 grain Sierra Blitzkings and 77 grain Hornady match, because my gun shoots both extremely accurately as far out as I’m comfortable shooting. And a 223 is super cheap to reload and it burns less powder than most 224 caliber centerfire for what I get out of it. (Im a cheap bastard) I use this particular AR because I already own it for a prairie dog gun and it also puts venison on the table. I use a Vortex crossfire 2 3-9×50 because it was in the bargain cave at cabelas for $60.
A set of shooter Ridge sticks because they’ll adjust low enough to shoot sitting and long enough to shoot standing. They have a pivoting rest, and I got them for $18 on ebay (im a cheap bastard)
My scatter gun is usually a Verona sx405s 12 gauge with a carlsons extra full turkey choke and 3 inch #4 buck Remingtons. Because it patterns really well to 65 yards and I’m a cheap bastard.
I usually mouth call with an assortment of calls, though I do own an Icotec g300 because im a cheap bastard. I also have a $13 motorized decoy, because yes, I’m a cheap bastard. I wear whatever camo is washed at the time and i take a scent free shower before a hunt. So I coulda wrote this post shorter and faster by saying this-
Experiment! Take what you got and go try it. If you fail try again. You don’t need $3000 guns and $500 calls to kill coyotes. But you do need a gun and coyotes to kill coyotes. I kill a ton of dogs without them, and im a cheap bastard! Good luck and shoot straight!

I completely agree. Only reason I have a ecaller was because how I found it. New in box on Craigslist from a guy who’s wife bought him the same exact call he already had, and he had set to how he wanted it so he bought a new one.
I just use my normal hunting great including weapons. Bow, 12guage with turkey choke, 22 lr, 30-30, 308, 7 mag all with my normal hunting rounds.

Forgot some important points.
Don’t slam your doors, turn your phone off, make sure your gun(s) loaded, be quiet and stay low to your setup, and sit still. Have patience and don’t give up!

I was a cheap bastard that could get by without the fancy stuff. Till I shot a gun with a suppressor , then I wasn’t happy till I had one .
