Leg lifts maybe? Front, back and side

One that my therapist gave me was bridges using an exercise ball with your feet on the ball at an angle then thrust your hips up while pushing the ball out with your feet without losing control of ball. Or hold the ball between your ankles and do leg lifts while on your back.
Those definitely work your quads and glutes without strain on your knees.
