I am struggling. I understand Keto pretty well, know my macros and yet, I seem to be able to only make it 36-48 hours before I eat WAY over my carbs, negating everything. I am gaining weight because of this and am miserable. Any suggestions on how I can get past 48 hours and make it?
I think you’re going to have to decide you want to. I understand the struggle, I do but you are the boss of you. Perhaps instead of giving in you could get a notebook etc and just journal those feelings. Find ways to talk yourself out of it. I’ve been at this a year and a half and there are days when it’s tougher than others but I decided that what I put into my mouth is up to me, not my cravings, not my fears, not my stress, not my boredom, not simply because the food is there. You gotta fight!
I understand the carb cravings; the addiction is strong and fighting back. Three ideas or maybe strategies. First, know that you are strong and although it may take an extreme act of willpower, you can deny yourself the carbs. It’s hard but it will only be hard for a few days, then it will become much, much easier, and you’ll feel great about yourself knowing you have that much discipline. Second – for almost every carb you crave, there is a keto alternative. Have those lined up and give yourself permission to indulge freely for 2-3 weeks, just until the carb cravings have ceased. Third.. Every time you want to reach for a carb, have a dill pickle instead 🙂 Pickles are awesome.
You have to get rid of the carby snacks in your house. Stock up on nuts and other safe snacks and go over on calories until you can get the carb cravings to go away. I had to sacrifice my calorie goals to meet my carb goals for the first few weeks. Then my appetite came back under control.
