I know very little about CO elk hunting but have noticed a lot of guys hunt OTC archery year after year, rather than buying points for a draw unit every second or third year. Why is that? Cost of points or is it that a couple of points don’t get a tag better than OTC?

You can kill some nice bulls with OTCT, pack in deep and camp 7 to 10 days, it pays off big.

Actually it may take 25! Years or more with point creep. They DOW will have to modify that. They’ve already gone to a hybrid draw for that over 5 points but it’s still a pipe dream.

Because you don’t need to waste money by getting points when you can be successful in OTC units plus they have big bulls as well.

As long as you’re using a 6.5 Creedmore you can hunt anything, anytime, anywhere based on posts I’ve seen in this group and others. No need for tags.

OTC last year. This was unit 16. I have hunted OTC unit 85 several times. Taking 4 bulls bulls at or just above 300 there. I have never struck out on a bull in Colorado. All I hunt is OTC. But I do have 11 points banked.
