I need some advice please. I’m at goal and decided I need to get fit. I have a gym membership and have had 1 session with a private trainer. She suggested that I sign up for her “Sr. Pulse” class. I’m not a senior but I had spinal fusion on my neck in December and I’m woefully out of shape. Today was my first class. The seniors here kicked my butt. The first 30 minutes was intervals on the treadmill then on a rowing machine. The last 30 minutes was core training. Normally I IF and do a BPC at noon. I really haven’t been hungry much on this diet but … when I came home from class I was starving. Literally I felt like I could eat a whole cow. So I had a huge plate of bacon and eggs. My question is, do I need to not do IF if I’m going to work out? Do I eat first? My trainer said I need to eat carbs before my workout so I nodded and left it. Do you have a suggestion?
So, if you are at your goal weight what is the reason you are still doing IF? If for health rather than fat loss then cool.. But you may need to change the way you are doing it. I would be moving the BPC to before you work out and make sure you are getting some good nutrients in within an hour or so after your training.. That should be including a fair proportion of your daily protein macros at that point. You certainly can fast and workout but you need to ask the question why you want to still fast. Most of the health benefits you get from fasting you are already getting by eating keto.
I’m pretty good with just the keto dieting part, but not working out and doing the diet. I’m excited to learn though. My friend wants me to start training for a 1/2 marathon with her so I’m just getting started on this new chapter (getting fit!) of my wonderful new life.
If you’re hungry, eat! I tried fasting about 6 months into keto and several days after a hard workout (fasted) I was starving. So I stopped fasting for a while. A month ago I started again and am fine now with 20 hour fasts even with working out. Just listen to your body.
