Hey everyone, so I haven’t gotten a Betta yet, but I just got approved for a tank in my apartment. My dad is AWESOME and as soon as I mentioned a betta he said “Please please don’t put it in a bowl!” I told him I’m getting a 10 gallon and he thinks I should get him friends. So, if I’m only allowed one tank, how do I quarantine? My thoughts for buddies would be a few shrimp or maybe a snail or 2 (especially if they were different colors so I could name them). My other thought was
maybe some Glofish but I have no idea which glofish need high water flow and if they will make my Betta aggressive because of the bright colors. And again, how to QT… I’m such a newbie. I’m going to be asking lots of questions on this page; be prepared! And TIA. I will take any and all advice, I went the best for my future little buddy.
For a 10 gallon tank, it’s not really a good idea to put another fish with a betta. Especially a glofish. Bettas are very territorial and will flare if another fish, especially a colorful one, gets too close. Most likely ending with one hurt or dead. The minimum I would recommend for a community betta tank, is a 20 gallon. That leaves enough space but is still pushing it. It’s a 50/50 change that they will be ok in the 20 gallon. I’ve had luck with a betta and a couple neon tetras in a 25 gallon but a 10 is way too small. I unfortunately have no experience with snails so I don’t know how the betta will react.
