I’m a mountain biker. I’ve been keto for 3weeks now. After about 7 miles I bonk, I know it takes awhile to fat adapt….so what should I take to eat on a ride? I never eat on a ride, but I have no choice now. Help!!
When I was adapting, my favorite things to snack on were Trader Joe’s coconut oil packets, their packets of olives and I’d wrap up a chunk of feta. Salty foods are your friends. I want to say it was the nourished caveman that suggested the following: squeeze of lemon or lime, splash of aloe juice and 1/4-1/2 tsp of sea salt or pink salt to your bidon. Prior to keto my training would be to increase mileage with every ride. That did not work during adaptation. I found increasing saddle time and going easy on myself was the best. I wish I had gotten a HRM strap right away. MAF is a really helpful way to build that strength again.
