I have recently had my gallbladder removed, as it was full of stones. I’m interesting in getting advice on my diet from now on, as I’m aware that the stone formation is a symptom of something out of balance. The gallbladder removal is treating a symptom, not the root cause.
Following Dr. Greger’s highly nutritious food plan is the best diet for health overall. Perhaps if you consulted an alternative doctor they might give you a holistic reason for why your body created the gall stones but I doubt you’d get any reason from western medicine.
With respect, Western plant-based doctor chiming in here. Gallstone are basically crystallised bile salts which are mainly composed of cholesterol. Risk factors for forming stones include but are not limited to overweight, female sex, age…Many people form small stones but they remain asymptomatic and do not require treatment. If a person has gall bladder attacks (cholecystitis) then it is generally an indication for surgery—to avoid complications such as infected or even burst gallbladder! Gallstone pancreatitis etc. Even with poor diet such as SAD, and the traditional risk factors, some people get problematic gallstones and some don’t. Rather than seeking holistic reasons beyond what I have mentioned above, I think best to look forward and adopt the kind of whole food plant based no sugar salt or oil way of eating which reduces risks for heart disease and many other major illnesses as described in Dr Greger’s book. By the way, Dr Greger is definitely a Western doctor, as are Dr’s Ornish, Esselstyn, McDougall, Kahn, Fuhrman etc. Hope that is helpful!
My father’s good friend just had his Gallbladder removed in an emergency surgery. A few weeks later I got a message asking for information regarding Vegan recipes!!! Obviously will send him only WFPB recipes but here is to us helping to change the world!
I had mine removed and am perfectly happy following the DD. The only thing that changed is that now I feel super sick with some non compliant stuff (like wine, which never hurt my stomach before), so I try to stay as close as possible to the DD and avoid alcohol.
I had mine removed a few weeks ago and I just do more poops each day. I use to be once a day now it’s 3 times a day which I’ve heard on a plant based diet is normal. So I’d say my diseased gb was really messing with my digestion and now everything is working as it should.
