Is it possible to be in Ketosis and not lose weight? All urine tests (and my breath (tell me I’m in full blown Ketosis and I lost 14.4lbs in January. The last week or so I’ve noticed a drastic decrease in weight loss and even some weight gain back and forth. I know a lot of factors go into this and not to get down about the scale but it is still discouraging. I’m hoping for at least another 15lbs by March. I started out at 194 and am currently 178. Maybe the lower weight i am the slower it comes off?? I don’t know.
I’m going through the same after 4 weeks back on keto. It’s normal. Only stalled if not losing for 6 weeks they say. Frustrating but it’s just your system re adjusting. You could up your fat intake or drink more water and don’t forget your electrolytes.
When you first start keto it’s typical to lose 5-10 lbs very quickly but it’s just water weight. You’ve done very well to lose 15 lbs in your first month but please don’t be disappointed; it’s probably not going to repeat. 5-10 lbs/month, or less, is more usual after the first month. Additionally, the normal fluctuation of scale weight is a lot larger than short-term body fat loss. Let’s say you’re losing 1 lb a week (a typical and healthy weight-loss pace). A 16 oz glass of water weighs a pound… Your food weighs a bunch too, and depending on the time of month you could be inflamed more or less. Inflammation can also be influenced by exercise, infections, allergies, food sensitivities… Detecting those 1-2 lbs of actual body fat change amid all those other changes is not easy. Don’t let yourself get frustrated by the scale numbers short-term. Patience and discipline will get you there.
