running on a hard surface is hard on your knees, if you are overweight that just makes it worse on your knees. HOWEVER, you are NOT going to permanently/badly damage yourself from jogging 3 times a week for 30 minutes, but your knees may be a lil achy in the mornings if you dont stretch and sometimes mine make a weird cracking noise. if you can, you should find an exercise that you enjoy with less impact on your knees like cycling, but if you really just want to run then just try to be cautious and listen to your knees! good luck

The whole debate for knee pain when running is your gate, you need to look at your bio-mechanic while running and analyse it, this is the best for injury prevention, the reason why a lot of people have knees problem is because they run with the ball of their foot, from there there is no shock absorbers and the vibrations are running straight to your knee cap using it as a shock absorber

It was bad for my knees are well. Started doing C25k last summer and actually caused damage to my knee. I had knee cap pain and hamstring tendinitis. 8 months later, I still deal with the pain! Sad part was, I was really enjoying running!
