Lots of experience with rifle but going to start night hunting and plan to use a 12 gauge full choke for close shots. Have had some trouble sourcing 3″ 4-Buck… Anyone tried the 2 3/4 (27 pellets vs. 41)? Other suggestions/advice? Thanks!
When i use to hunt deer with 10 gauge 3 1/2 inch shells i hand loaded 54 pellets of #4 buck would just nicely cover a 4 x 8 pc of plywood at 90 yards and ive killed them that far. That was left hand barrel. Right barrel shot 21 pellets of O BUCK and kept most of them on a 4 x 4 pc.. Loaded 50 grains of blue dot powder. Thats 25 % more than a hot 12 gauge.
When buying buckshot go for name brand remington , winchester, federal shotshells. The wolf, tula and other off brands do not have enough powder in them to do the job. I have shot them all and you can even feel the recoil difference . Also go with copper plated on nickel plated they deform less and give better patterns.
