Thank you! That was helpful – I don’t know why people are so obsessed with body image to the point they may actually do more harm than good. I want to make weights/resistance a part of my work outs. But nothing to distract just to build muscle and burn fat.

Fasted workouts or fasted cardio do burn more calories but it`s by a negligible amount. During a fasted workout your body has very little stored energy available to fuel the workout so it converts stored glycogen in the liver into glucose to be used for energy in a process called glucogenesis. Many people assume that weight training in a fasted state will cause your body to break down muscle in order to fuel the workout but this is not true as the body uses the glucose being converted from the liver. Something worth noting is that workouts which last a long period of time may cause muscle catabolism as the body only has a limited supply of glycogen in the liver. Overall if you are looking to optimize muscle growth then you should be consuming a pre and post workout meal which contain both carbohydrates and protein in order to fuel your workout and take advantage of the Muscle Protein Synthesis (MPS) sensitivity of the muscles post exercise. I`ve written a blog post on Pre-, Intra and Post- Workout Nutrition here if you would like to read about how to set up your nutrition in order to maximise MPS. https://apfitnesssite.wordpress.com/…/training-for…/
