I understand that in more recent time Dr. Esselstyn has advised against sweeteners like maple syrup. Does anyone know where he is with dates?

Same thing. They are very heavily concentrated sugars. He keeps servings of fruit limited to 3 small servings. Too much fructose can raise triglycerides, damage the liver and injure endothelial cells. He takes no chances with his heart disease patients.

do you have a reference for where Dr. E specifies no Maple Syrup or dates for that matter? This doesn’t seem to equate with the cookbook, so I’m hoping he’s mentioned it in a video or posted it somewhere?

diabetic doctor told me that dates are straight sugar and the implication was to find something else to use
