Hi I’m thinking about getting a betta fish. I found a tank but someone used it for another animal not fish it was a Lizard is there a problem with buying a tank that was used before and is there precautions I should take. Like should I wash the tank out first and if so what should I wash it out with so it doesn’t hurt the batta?

I do not recommend getting any tank that was used for a reptile. The reptiles nails could have scratched the seal in the tank and compromised it. Could potinonaly leak.

I don’t suggest using soap ever(especially don’t use bleach). Just wash it with Vinegar and water and it’ll be just fine.

Very very diluted bleach and a good rinsing under hot water

Don’t use bleach especially if you haven’t washed it with something else first. If there’s any ammonia from reptile waste in there the bleach will react and make super deadly mustard gas.
