Too small to split. Get a 10 gal then you can do split tank.

Honestly I would “if in budget and space” get two 5g. Easier to maintain water parameters, sick treatment etc plus the benefit of two different scapes and they would have the length of their tanks which is more important than height.

I would probably just get another tank you can look on different used pages to find one for pretty cheap along with necessities. I’ve seen so many horror stories about split tanks and if one betta gets sick the water is contaminated for both bettas
